What it is

A blue book on the left of the HUD. It is the game's reference panel, and one source describes it as the game's own data source, meaning the numbers on its cards are the developer's numbers and are always the current patch rather than a snapshot. That description is the strongest available argument for treating the Index as the anchor for any value on this site.

This site's whole approach is built on separating the game's numeric systems rather than blending them, and the Index is where two of those systems are displayed next to each other. It also reveals a third system, the mutation ladder, that third-party tables disagree with.

Graded S4 Single source. Single third-party source describing an in-game panel that has not been photographed for this site. The claim that the Index shows current-patch values is the source's own description.

The three tabs

The three tabs of the in-game Index
TabShowsUndiscovered entries
PetsEvery hatchable pet with its rarity as a 1 in N figureBlack silhouette. The shape hints at the pet's body type or size, but the name only appears once the pet has actually been hatched.
EggsEgg map spawn counts, running from x30 down to x1, alongside Clover valuesThe same silhouette treatment is used for higher tier eggs
MutationsThe mutation multipliers, described as weather mutations

The silhouette treatment is worth a note of its own. An undiscovered entry is drawn as a black shape whose outline hints at the creature's body type or size, while the name stays hidden until the pet has actually been hatched. So the panel tells a player roughly what is missing without telling them what it is, which is a designed kind of tease rather than a missing feature.

The Pets tab is the source of the rarity ladder used on this site, and the Eggs tab is the source of the Clover ladder. Neither of those tabs publishes a total count, which is the reason this site does not state how many pets or eggs exist. The roster here carries 30 named entries, and that is a count of what has been corroborated rather than a claim about the full list.

The Mutations tab is the best artifact found for the mutation ladder

The in-game Index has a third tab, alongside Pets and Eggs, and it lists the mutation multipliers. That tab is described as showing five weather mutation multipliers spanning from Shocked at 2x at the bottom to Eternal at 100x at the top.

  • A fourth multiplier: a mutation called Eternal sits at 100x, which is far above anything in the third-party tables.
  • The shape of the ladder. If the bottom three are 2x, 3x and 4x, and the top is 100x, then one entry between 4x and 100x remains unnamed rather than two.
  • The word weather. The Index tab is described as listing weather mutations, which suggests mutations are weather events rather than shop items or egg outcomes. Nothing else corroborates this.
  • The Index is described as the game's own data source, with cards that always show current-patch values, which makes this tab the closest thing to an authoritative list that exists.

Two cautions belong with this. The first is that Eternal is also the name of the top radar tier, so two different systems share one name and it would be easy to merge them by accident. The second is that the word weather is doing real work in that description: if mutations are weather events rather than shop items or egg outcomes, the whole system works differently from how the third party tables describe it, and nothing else found corroborates that yet.

The standing table, the three corroborated multipliers and the scope problem are on the mutations page.

Rewards, and the schedule nobody publishes

Milestones pay cash through a Claim button on the panel. The payout scales with how much of the collection has been registered, so the same milestone is worth more to a player who has registered more entries.

Because the payout scales, a milestone table would be the single most useful document about this panel, and no source publishes one. The only exact figure found anywhere is a Claim button reading $15,000 at eight registered discoveries.

An earlier note on this site recorded milestone payouts of $1,000 and $5,000. The figure found now is $15,000 at eight discoveries. These may be different rungs of a scaling ladder, which would make them compatible, or one set may be wrong. Neither is presented as the schedule because no source publishes a schedule.

Without the ladder it is impossible to say how much of a session's income the Index is worth, which is the only question a player actually has about it.

One source contradicts itself on whether the button comes back

One statement says registration is permanent, which implies a settled progress bar with one payout per milestone. The same page advises claiming every session, which implies the button reappears or keeps paying. Reconciliation is impossible.

This is not a detail worth guessing at, because the two readings imply different play. If a milestone pays once, the Index is a bounded reward for collecting. If the claim keeps reappearing, checking the panel is a routine that produces income, and skipping it costs cash every session.

How progress registers

Registration is automatic. Hatching a pet, picking up an egg type, or witnessing a mutation all register themselves without any action from the player.

Registration survives selling the pet. The record is of having found it, not of still owning it. Register before selling. A player who hatches, sells and moves on leaves the claim uncollected, and several sources describe the Index as a meaningful cash source rather than a collectible.

The automatic part is what makes this easy to forget. There is no button to press when you hatch a pet, so there is no moment where the game asks you to notice the Index. The panel fills in silently while you play, and the only interaction it ever wants is the claim.

The rebirth question, unanswered

No source states whether a rebirth clears Index progress. It matters because a rebirth already takes cash, luck and most pet power, so a fourth reset target would change when a player should be collecting on the panel.

Not published. Nothing here claims either answer. It is listed among the open questions on the rebirth page as well, because a player planning a reset needs to know what it takes.

Why this panel is the anchor for everything else

The Index displays the same values that this site treats as separate systems, which is why it is worth being precise about what sits where. The Pets tab shows the rarity ladder, which is the map egg rarity label and not a shop odds table. The Eggs tab shows the Clover ladder, which is a price rather than a chance. The Mutations tab shows multipliers, which are a third thing again. Reading any one of these as evidence for another is the error this site is built to avoid.

It is worth being concrete about the three, because a reader who separates them once will not conflate them again. The rarity ladder answers how rare a pet is when it comes out of a map egg. The Clover ladder answers what an egg row costs. The mutation ladder answers what a multiplier is worth. None of the three is a probability of anything, and the only published probabilities in the game live somewhere else entirely, on the shop egg panels.

The derivation showing why the rarity ladder and the shop odds cannot be compared is on the Phoenix page. The Clover ladder is on the egg locations page. And the reasons a single ranking covers both speed and income are on the specialists page.

What is still not established about the Index

  • The milestone payout schedule, which is the only question a player actually has about this panel.
  • Whether a milestone pays once or whether the claim reappears. The one source describing it says both.
  • Whether a rebirth clears Index progress.
  • How many entries each tab holds. No total is published for pets or eggs.
  • Whether the mutation multipliers on the third tab stack with each other, and whether a weather mutation applies to one pet or to the whole plot.

Common questions

What is the Index in Ride A Pet?
A blue book on the left of the HUD that acts as the game own reference panel. It has three tabs covering pets, eggs and mutations, and it records what you have found rather than what you own. One source describes its cards as the developer own numbers and always current-patch, which makes it the closest thing this topic has to an authoritative source.
How much cash does the Index pay?
No source publishes the schedule. The payouts scale with how much of the collection you have registered, so the same milestone is worth more to a player who has found more, and the only exact figure found anywhere is $15,000 at eight registered discoveries. An earlier note on this site recorded $1,000 and $5,000, which may be other rungs of the same scaling ladder.
Do I lose Index progress if I sell a pet?
No. Registration is of having found the pet, not of still owning it, so selling does not remove the entry. The practical habit that follows is to register before you sell, because a player who hatches, sells and moves on leaves the milestone claim uncollected.
Does a rebirth reset the Index?
No source states either way. It matters because a rebirth already takes cash, luck and most pet power, so if progress were a fourth reset target it would change when a player should be collecting. This site does not claim an answer.
Why does the Index matter for reading this site?
Because it displays the three numeric systems this site keeps separate, side by side in one panel. The Pets tab is the rarity ladder, the Eggs tab is the Clover price ladder, and the Mutations tab is a multiplier ladder. Treating any one of them as evidence for another is the most common error in this game coverage.
